Digital Television Transition - In 1996, Congress mandated that all full power TV stations must cease broadcasting in "analog" format and begin broadcasting in the digital format.  The date for the "DTV Transition" is 2/17/09.  What do Forest Hills residents need to do to keep getting a television signal after that date?  If you have a digital TV already you will likely have to do nothing (if you are not sure, check out the Q&A page).  Otherwise check out this summary:

  • If your analog television is hooked up to cable or satellite services you will NOT be impacted unless your cable or satellite service has informed you otherwise.  To our knowledge, cable and satellite companies that serve the borough will continue to receive signals after the transition date.
  • If your analog TV is not connected to cable or satellite and receives a picture with the help of "rabbit ears" or a rooftop or other antenna it will stop receiving signals on 2/17/09 and you must do something.  What can you do?
    • Purchase a digital converter box for each analog TV.  The government is issuing up to two $40 coupons to defray the cost of the box.  Coupons are available on a first come, first served basis.  Visit www.DTV.gov to sign up.  The coupons are good for 90 days and can be used at electronic retail stores (e.g., Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.).  You may also call the coupon program 24 hour hotline at 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009).
    • Purchase a new digital TV
    • Connect your analog TV to the local cable provider or a satellite service.
  • As of April 2008, the following websites provide helpful information on the transition:
  • Or check out a Question and Answer summary provided to the borough by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and Comcast by clicking HERE.
  • This information is provided as a courtesy to Forest Hills residents but the borough cannot answer your questions on the subject.  This information may change over time.  Please visit one of the sites listed here if you need further or updated information or visit the TV department of a local electronics or department store.   You may also contact the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) at 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322).

Police Regionalization Study- Forest Hills, Wilkins Township and Chalfant have cooperated with the state in a study of a potential regional police force for the three municipalities.  A regional force would combine the 2 police forces into one, larger force and patrol all three communities.  The study recently was released to the three governing bodies for review and has been discussed with officers from both police forces.  Several items require correction in the study.  The final copy will be released soon and will be posted on the borough's website with a hard copy available at the borough office during business hours for citizen review.  A release date has not been established, however.  Information will be posted here once the document is available.  The governing bodies of the three municipalities will discuss the study before deciding how to proceed.  Forest Hills council has discussed the concept of a regional police force in public session in committee and during business meetings and will continue to review and take public comment as the review proceeds.  No determination has been made as to whether any of the communities will accept the report and work toward creating a regional force.  Forest Hills council has not made a decision on the issue and will do so only after further deliberation and discussion in public meetings.   Return to Top of Page
